Lyrics written at sea….

Whilst on my first sea phase; I wrote a few songs on my Ukulele and recorded them once I had returned from sea.  Having an outlet to be creative was a godsend, in an environment where creativity isn’t really something that’s required. Which ever ship I join in future, I’ll be taking a Ukulele along with me.   They can be heard and downloaded for free here.  Any feedback on the lyrics or music is welcomed.

“Longing for you”

Waiting, for the green light from you,

but you won’t play ceaser, and tell me the news,

I’m so down on this island,

that I can’t even start,

considering new horizons,

to map out virgin charts.

I’m trying, to burn the days with out flame,

and I have no sword or armour,

so the dragon will remain,

un-slayed in his mansion,

content in all his ways,

well soon I’ll have my sabre,

and I will emerge from the cave,

Cause, I’ve been longing for you
Yeah, I’ve been longing for you
yes it’s true..

I’m hoping that somebody answers my call,

cause staying here alone ain’t what I bargained for,

I dreamed that we were talking,

about the birds and the bees,

you and I were walking,

in picture perfect scenes,

Waking, from a dream within a dream,

utopian like fragrance,

merrily down the stream,

I don’t think I can take much more,

but what more can I do?

when these shackles running from my heart

don’t stop me near you.

Cause I’ve been longing for you
I’ve been longing for you
Cause I’ve been longing for you
yes it’s true

Hold Fast

All my yesterdays,

Seem like such better days,

In ways, I just can’t comprehend,

All this time to contemplate,

this voyage of ours to heaven’s gate,

will we ever truly know what it all meant,

Cause’ I’ve tried, Lord, I’ve tried Lord,

to focus on good times,

and I’ve tried Lord, to hide the thoughts,

but I’m never satisfied,

So I’ll Hold Fast,

and hope the rain and the wind won’t last,

These stormy seas will proceed into the past,

She be in my arms, at last,

If I hold fast.

 And all these avenues,

That became the have not, haven’t yous’,

Did I, pay attention to the signs?,

All these do not do’s,

 from the self preservating,

point of views,

I wish that I’d known all this from the start,

Cause’ I’ve tried, Lord, I’ve tried Lord

to focus on good times

and I’ve tried lord, to hide the thoughts

but I’ve never been satisfied

So I’ll Hold Fast

and hope the rain and the wind won’t last

These stormy seas will proceed into the past

She be in my arms, at last

If I hold fast

Stand up

Waiting for the band to play,

the song of my returning to the stage,

the curtain fell, I did not fail ,

I recited all those lines,

with passion and conviction,

the ovation was all mine,

it was all mine….

Waiting for the right to pass,

good bye to my mother,

the precession has passed,

waving good bye to my father,

avoiding the tears from my daughter,

looking down on the clouds as the shadow of a jet plane is cast,

it’s in the past

it’s in the past.

waiting for the dark hills to send,

those shimmering lights,

which I romantically comprehend,

wondering if she’s naked,

pondering if she’s crying,

thinking that some one might be there,

who understands,

but who understands?

hating, who I’ve become,

the daggers are drawn,

it’s over, my race is run,

taking my self out to pasture,

falling from grace in my stature,

drinking til’ dawn til I fall down forlorn and the day it is done,

before it’s begun,

before it’s begun,

I’ll stand up now and I will not falter,

I’ll defend rampart for the cause,

and any onslaughts from the rebels,

I will extinguish with full force,

I’ll stand up now, and I will not falter,

I’ll keep my course and will not alter,

An Island to oneself  (ode to Tom Neale)

The Mahurangi dropped away,

slowly across the bay,

and I was left alone to face life with myself,

How sweet the rays that shine,

how special, that breeze is mine,

how despairing that no one is here with me?

You say that you’re haunted by your fears,

Well, we haven’t had a ship in years?

No, We haven’t had a ship in years.

Mrs Thievery and Tom,

know the shape of things to come,

that we all will have to leave this place one day,

Will the remnants of my pier?

echo  down the years,

remain here for the next, ship that will come.

You tell me you’re haunted by your fears?

Well, we haven’t had a ship in years? No,

We haven’t had a ship in years?

The Mahurangi dropped away,

slowly across the bay,

and I was left alone,

 in perfect harmony,

how sweet the rays coming down,

how special the breeze is ours,

how happy now that you are with me,
